Deck Options

Decks R Us brings you much more than a standard deck. We take the time to educate you on decking materials including composite material, Trex, Ipe heartwood, PVC and more.

This knowledge coupled with an ingenious design will make your home a standout in your neighborhood and may earn you a place in your local Home Showcase like some of our clients.

A Custom Process

We love to try new things. We have added some really cool options to our covered decks over the years, including outdoor kitchens, bar tops, benches, planter boxes, and stone pillars to name a few. So, if you have an idea or a picture of something that you want to be included, just let us know.

Free Advice on Deck Options

We can build simple to more sophisticated decks because that's our specialty. You may want to think twice about going with a contractor that doesn't specialize in decks but we believe the figure of speech, "a jack of all trades is a master of none" are pretty good words to follow.

Contractors that build sun rooms, garages, additions and decks don't specialize the way we do. Decks are our passion! With every deck we build, we improve our quality and get more experience.

Flooring

Choosing the right deck flooring can be overwhelming, but in our decades of experience we have narrowed it down to 4 materials across different price points to suit our customers.

Columns and Posts

We love working with our customers to choose the perfect deck columns and posts for their space. We offer wood and vinyl options that each bring a unique style to the decks we build. Pairing simple, clean posts with cable railings has been a very popular option, and posts with spindles are a classic option that our customers still love. Whether you choose wood or vinyl, be sure to speak with our team about customization options like post cap lighting.

Deck Lighting

Deck lighting adds a stylistic flair to your outdoor space and can make your deck safer by illuminating steps and walkways. The transformers we use have built in photocells for automatic dusk to dawn operation, and can be installed in your basement, under your deck, or anywhere else where it will be hidden

"These days, we're selling lights on just about every deck we build. I think it's great. I want my customers to spend every possible moment out on their deck. I am happiest when a customer tells me they spend more time on their deck than they do in their living room. So if you are going to be relaxing after dinner on a cool summer night, some accent lighting will make you feel like you're in some mountaintop resort," said John, owner Decks R Us.

Steps on Your Deck

"Probably about 95 percent of the decks that we build have steps of some sort," said Crew Leader Joe Stoltzfus. "They either lead down to the backyard, out toward the driveway, down to another level or out to a pool."

Steps are one of the most functional parts of a deck. Our deck steps are designed with both safety and style in mind, and they can be customized to your liking. Whether you’d like a full staircase or just a few steps, we’ve got you covered. Plus, if you have a new beautiful deck, why not make it accessible, too?

Privacy Walls on Decks

If you want to ensure your privacy or intimacy, think about adding a privacy fence. You can add it to any side. Privacy walls can be made out of the same material as the rails so that it matches, enhances privacy, and looks amazing.

"If your house is close to the neighbors, we can build a really sharp looking privacy screen that looks like it's part of your deck, and not an afterthought," said John. "We can build a privacy fence a couple different ways. One way is to have a solid panel about 5 feet high, and then put about 12'' of lattice on top to make it a total of about 6'. Another way is to have the privacy wall totally solid without any lattice on the top. Oftentimes these walls are 4'-6' high."

If your new deck will include a hot tub and you want privacy, Decks R Us recommends going with a 4 or 5-foot high wall around part (or all) of your hot tub. You can see over this wall when you are standing on the deck, but it ensures complete privacy if you are down in the hot tub taking a relaxing soak under the stars.

Under-Deck Options

Under deck options ensure that you are using your outdoor space to its fullest potential. Installing under deck ceilings provides a dry storage area and opens up the opportunity for an under deck patio. Lattice and skirting is the perfect finish to a new deck, and is always installed with an access door to reach items stored beneath the deck. Adding stones and fabric below your deck is an affordable option that cuts down on mud, and prevents weeds from growing up through low decks.

Gazebos

Adding a gazebo to your deck can completely transform your outdoor living space. Gazebos offer full protection from the elements and are large enough for dining and outdoor entertainment. You can even opt to add a screen to keep out pesky insects.

Railings

Choosing the perfect deck railing allows you to get creative with the design of your deck. We have 6 go-to options, but if you’ve seen something unique that you would like be sure to mention it to your design expert as you are developing your deck.

Deck Benches

Deck benches are a great improvement. Our benches are usually made out of the same materials as the decking. They are all custom made to fit your deck. If you want a small 4' long bench to fit in a corner or a 30' long curved bench that runs all the way along the front of your deck or around an octagon, we can do it.
