Pros and Cons of Vinyl Decking

We here at Decks R Us are big fans of the latest versions of Vinyl decking, especially the Timbertech PVC brand. We began using Timbertech PVC back in 2005 when it was still sold under the Procell brand. This decking is made much like the older composite type, but is 100% plastic. It is available in many colors and sizes.

One of the things we love about Vinyl decking is how easy it is to work with. Unlike wood or composite decking it does not crack or split. Most Vinyl decking brands come with a lifetime warranty against cracking and rotting. It is also much easier to clean than composite or wood, it’s hard outer shell does not allow stains to penetrate easily.

A common misconception about vinyl decking, is the maintenance free myth. While it is typically lower matenance than any other decking, it is not completely free of it. One of the most common problems with vinyl decking, is a whiteish haze or chalkiness that develops on it over time. This is called oxidization, and is caused by the UV rays in sunlight. The good news is that a cleaner is available that will easily restore your deck to like new condition

Pros: Lots of color choices, lowest maintenance decking, longest warranty/life span

Cons: can’t be painted or stained, higher cost, reflects heat
